Rev. Douglas GrandgeorgeThe Rev. Douglas Grandgeorge joined the board in 2003, following the decision of Central Presbyterian Church to be a sponsoring donor to Surgeons of Hope. Through the Cornell Fund, Central Church has adopted SoH as its main international focus.
Douglas was raised in Somonauk, Illinois, received his BA degree in philosophy from Yale University, and studied theology at Yale, Andover Newton, General Seminary, New York Theological Seminary, and Mansfield College, Oxford. For 27 years, he worked for the City of New York helping indigent children. His last position for the city was Director of Social Services at the largest shelter for homeless children in New York.
Douglas has spent a lifetime developing skills working with disadvantaged children, and his world-wide travels have made him a spokesman for poverty-stricken children everywhere. Douglas is pastor and head of staff at Central Presbyterian Church at Park Avenue and 64th Street in Manhattan and in that capacity administers the Cornell Fund for Underprivileged Children.
