Michel LongchamptMichel Longchampt spent his entire career spanning from 1961 to 2004 in the steel industry in various locations in Asia, Europe and North America. During that period of time, Longchampt assumed managerial positions in trading organizations, was actively involved in major acquisitions and succeeded in restructuring Arcelor affiliates in the USA. He held and continues to hold Board memberships in private and public companies.
Most recently, from 1998 to 2004, Longchampt was chairman of Macsteel International USA, a trading company in steel and non ferrous products jointly owned by the largest South African producer Iscor and Macsteel BVI. Longchampt resigned from his position in June 2004 but retains his seats on the boards of Macsteel International and Macsteel Service Centers, the fifth largest distributor of ferrous and non ferrous in the US with sales of $1.7 billion.
From 1977 to 1997, Longchampt was President of Francosteel, the US arm of Arcelor and its predecessors. In the course of 20 years, he oversaw the major expansion of the company. During Longchampt’s tenure, revenues from trading alone grew from $185MM to $750 MM, the integration of various subsidiaries of Arcelor was completed and a significant number of acquisitions took place in the US.
From 1974 to 1976, he was Commercial Director of Saint Gobain/Pont a Mousson steel pipe division in France.
Prior to that, Longchampt was Far East Delegate of Saint Gobain/Pont a Mousson, a manufacturer of glass and cast iron pipes, stationed in Thailand from 1965 to 1973.
